Privacy Policy

Depending on which features you use, we collect:

• Your account: your name, email address, and profile photo if you add one. You can sign in with Apple, Google, or email. You may also tell us optional details like your school.
• Your classes and syllabi: the syllabi you upload and what we read from them (deadlines, exams, grading weights, policies, and office hours), plus any deadlines you add yourself, by typing or by voice.
• Lecture recordings and notes: the audio you record in class, its transcript, the notes and summaries we generate, anything you type while recording, and deadlines we catch from what your professor said.
• Tutor and Live Study: the questions and messages you send the tutor, your voice during a Live Study session, and camera images when you choose to show the camera something (like a problem set) during a session.
• Grades: when you share your D2L or Canvas grades page from Safari, the assignment names, scores, and due dates on that page. We never ask for, see, or store your school password.
• Advising notes: anything you write in your advising brief.
• Device and usage information: your device model, iOS and app version, crash reports, and which features you use, so we can fix problems and improve the app.
• Notifications: a device token so we can send the reminders and alerts you turn on.
• Messages to us: anything you send through support email, the contact form, beta feedback, or our waitlist.
• Reactions and feedback on shared notes: when you share a note, people who open it can tap “This helped,” which adds to a count on your note. They can also send feedback to us. We don't pass that feedback on to you.

• To run the app: build your timeline from your syllabi, write your lecture notes, answer your tutor questions, run Live Study, show your grades, and prepare your advising brief.
• To send the reminders, deadline alerts, and other notifications you turn on.
• To add your deadlines to Apple Calendar or Google Calendar when you turn that on, and keep them up to date.
• To send important messages about your account, security, and the beta.
• To fix bugs, prevent abuse, and understand which features are working so we can improve them.
• To follow the law and enforce our Terms of Service.

CourseConnect uses AI to read your syllabi, turn lecture recordings into notes, caption photos you add to your notes, answer tutor questions, run Live Study, and read the grades pages you share. For each feature, we only send what that feature needs to the AI services that power it:

• Your questions and messages to the tutor, with the relevant parts of that class’s syllabus and notes.
• Lecture audio and its transcript, so we can write your notes.
• Photos you add to your notes, when we write a short caption for them, along with a little context from the lecture.
• Live Study audio, and camera images when you choose to turn the camera on.
• Syllabus files you upload, and the grades pages you share, so we can read them.

These services may only use what we send to provide their service to us. They don't train their models on your content. They may keep it for a limited time, up to 55 days depending on the service, to watch for abuse, and then delete it. Content flagged for serious misuse may be kept longer. We don't use your content to train our own AI models either. AI can make mistakes, so always double-check important deadlines, grades, and policies against your school's official sources.

Your photos: apart from being sent to an AI service to write a caption, photos you add to your notes stay on your phone unless you share a note and choose to include them. Photos in a shared note are removed when you stop sharing it, or after 30 days.

• The microphone is used only when you start a lecture recording, add a deadline by voice, or start a Live Study session.
• The camera is used only during Live Study, when you choose to turn it on.
• Lecture audio is sent to our servers to be transcribed and turned into notes.
• Recording keeps going if you lock your phone, and the app shows a Live Activity while it runs so you always know it is on.
• You can delete any lecture, and its notes and transcript, from inside the app.

You are responsible for following your school's rules and the law about recording classes. See our Terms of Service.

Shared notes: when you share a lecture note, anyone with the link can view it on our website, including the note's title, course name, your name, and your profile photo. Only share notes you're comfortable with others seeing. To take a shared note down, email us and we'll remove it.

Reactions and feedback from readers: anyone who opens a shared note can tap “This helped,” which adds to a count everyone can see, and can send feedback to the CourseConnect team. Feedback goes to us, not to the person who shared the notes, and it's anonymous unless the reader chooses to add an email so we can reply. To stop one person voting or sending messages over and over, we keep a short anonymous code made from their device and address that can't be turned back into who they are. We don't allow links in these messages.

Advising brief: when you share or export your advising brief, it goes wherever you send it.

Your calendar: if you let CourseConnect use Apple Calendar, it adds your deadlines to your calendar on your phone. If you connect Google Calendar, it creates a separate “CourseConnect” calendar in your Google account and only adds or updates deadlines there. It doesn't read your other events, and your Google sign-in for this stays on your phone. You can disconnect anytime.

Calendar link: your calendar link is private. Anyone who has that link can see your deadlines, so don't post it publicly.

We never sell your personal information. We share it only:

• With companies that help us run CourseConnect, for example to host and store your data, power AI features, transcribe recordings, send email, and understand crashes and usage. They may only use your information to provide their service to us.
• When you choose to share, like a shared note or your advising brief.
• For legal reasons, when required by law, or to protect the safety and rights of our users and CourseConnect.
• If the company changes hands, in a merger or acquisition, with this policy still protecting your information.

We never share your classes, notes, recordings, or grades with your school, your professors, or your classmates unless you choose to.

Your data is stored on secure cloud servers, mainly in the United States, and is encrypted in transit. Access is limited to what is needed to run the Service. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your phone and sign-in secure too.

In the app: we collect basic usage and crash information to improve the app. In Profile → Privacy you can also turn on session recordings, which let us see how you move through the app; they're off unless you turn them on, and typed text and images are hidden.

On our website: we use cookies to remember your choices. We only measure how the site is used if you choose “Accept all”; choosing “Essential only” turns that off.

We don't show ads and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

CourseConnect is for college and university students who are at least 17 years old. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we learn that someone under 17 has an account, we'll delete it.

• Delete your whole account and its data from Profile in the app, at any time.
• Delete individual classes, lectures, and notes whenever you like.
• Turn notifications, calendar sync, and session recordings on or off.
• Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it.
• Unsubscribe from non-essential emails.

For any privacy request, email support@courseconnectai.com. We'll confirm it's you and respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example California, Virginia, Colorado, or Connecticut), you may have additional rights under state law, and we honor them.

• We keep your data while your account is active.
• When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something.
• Backups are cleared on a rolling schedule, and anonymous usage statistics may be kept longer.

CourseConnect is an independent app for students. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or working on behalf of any school or learning platform, including D2L and Canvas.

If you use CourseConnect from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.

We'll update this policy as the app changes and change the “Last updated” date above. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect.

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Georgia. Nothing in it limits rights you have under the privacy laws where you live.
